Bryce Dallas Howard: Unvegan Hero

Vegan no more.

Bryce Dallas Howard first hit the scene in my world when she played Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man 3.  Yes, I am a nerd.  No, I don’t care.  But little did I know at that time that she was the daughter of Ron Howard (awesome) and a vegan (gross).  People become vegan for many reasons and Howard joined that strange group of people because Joaquin Phoenix convinced her eating animals was cruel.  No joke.

For starters, I wouldn’t recommend taking advice from Joaquin Phoenix.  He may be a merciful, but he is surely not sane.  Recently, though, Howard has realized the decision to become a vegan just wasn’t right for her.  She didn’t suddenly start loving meat (although I can’t understand why).  In fact, she found out that she has a rare disease that relies on the consumption of amino acids from meat.  While I’m sure her disease is rare and quite frightening, being a vegan seems like a disease in itself to me.

Standing up for what you believe in is all good and well, but when it puts your life at risk, it’s just so hard to justify.  Those who choose not to animal products will likely have health issues because of the lack of B12 and protein.  And this doesn’t even take into consideration rare diseases like Howard’s.

So, for bringing to light the dangeres of not eating meat (even if against your will), Bryce Dallas Howard, you are a true Unvegan Hero!

Oh yeah, in this video, pretend Spider-Man is meat and Gwen Stacy is umm Bryce Dallas Jordan.

Going Global at Plan Check

Fries of the world.

A couple of weeks ago, The Backyard Bite invited me to The Burger Culture Clash, sponsored by Stussy (which apparently still exists) and Plan Check. Plan Check, by the way, is a sort of new (since February) restaurant in West LA with Chef Ernesto Uchimura of Umami Burger fame. As my love of burgers, especially those of the umami variety, I jumped at the opportunity.

Although I arrived alone, I was not the only lone eater. Just next to where I was seated, I met e*star LA and we decided to share a meal called loneliness, because it’s better than eating alone. We made quick friends over our respective blogs and Midwestern roots, then got to work at dissecting the special menu, which Plan Check will be featuring for the next month if anything tickles your fancy.
