Mark Sanchez: Unvegan Hero

unvegan mark sanchezBeing a Michigan football fan, I always disliked Mark Sanchez.  As he quarterbacked for USC, he was an easy guy to hate.  Now that he has entered the NFL and plays for the New York Jets, any problem I may have had with him have gone away.  Not only that, but watching him play on TV a couple weeks ago has elevated him to a level higher than just about any other athlete in the country.  During a timeout, Sanchez was caught on film chowing down on a hot dog.

Check out the film below.

If you look closely, you can see that he has chosen not to put any ugly vegetables like relish or onions on his hot dog.  Instead he has simply chosen mustard, keeping things unvegan.  For some reason, people in the media were upset at Sanchez, and to appease these people he made an even greater unvegan decision and donated 1,000 hot dogs and hamburgers to a local soup kitchen.

For eating a veggie-free hot dog to help your football performance and donating meat to the needy, Mark Sanchez, you are a true Unvegan Hero!

Meat is a good thing. There is no getting around that!

  2. Kim Crystal says:

I think onions make a hot dog better, but in keeping with unveganizm, putting bacon or bean-free chili on it is good, too!

  3. Danny Cohen says:

Mustard is from a seed, therefore a plant, therefore NOT UNVEGAN.

  4. The Unvegan says:

Do not question the unvegan ways. I eat fruit and have been known to eat herbs, but I do not eat food classified as vegetables. I don’t think anyone would ever describe mustard as a vegetable. If they do, they are surely not sane.

Going Global at Plan Check

Fries of the world.

A couple of weeks ago, The Backyard Bite invited me to The Burger Culture Clash, sponsored by Stussy (which apparently still exists) and Plan Check. Plan Check, by the way, is a sort of new (since February) restaurant in West LA with Chef Ernesto Uchimura of Umami Burger fame. As my love of burgers, especially those of the umami variety, I jumped at the opportunity.

Although I arrived alone, I was not the only lone eater. Just next to where I was seated, I met e*star LA and we decided to share a meal called loneliness, because it’s better than eating alone. We made quick friends over our respective blogs and Midwestern roots, then got to work at dissecting the special menu, which Plan Check will be featuring for the next month if anything tickles your fancy.
