A Giant Slice of S’barro

A healthy slice of meats...

Few places offer slices as gigantic as S’barro.  Their Super Slice is filling like no other (non-stuffed) pizza.  Last time I went, I scanned the slices of pre-cooked pizza.  Aside from pepperoni and sausage, most of the slices had some sorts of veggies.  I ordered a slice of the pepperoni and sausage together.  From the few slices of that combo they had, I decided to be a jerk and point out the larger piece in the hopes that the friendly lady behind the counter would take it aside for me.  She did, and my heart leapt for joy.

She took the slice from the counter and slid it into the oven as I happily awaited my slice of meaty goodness.  It came out of the oven sizzling and full of the scent of meat.

Unfortunately, it didn’t taste as good as it smelled.  The cheese had a mildly rubbery texture and the dough was a little thicker than I would have liked.  The meats were as good as could have been expected from a S’barro pizza and the slice was certainly super.  By the time I finished, I wouldn’t be hungry again for a long while.

Why is it that S’barro tastes different (worse) in the airport than elsewhere? I think they put some spice on it to cover up the fact that it’s really not fresh. I fully support their pizza (preferably the pepperoni), as long as it’s not in the airport. Yuck.

Going Global at Plan Check

Fries of the world.

A couple of weeks ago, The Backyard Bite invited me to The Burger Culture Clash, sponsored by Stussy (which apparently still exists) and Plan Check. Plan Check, by the way, is a sort of new (since February) restaurant in West LA with Chef Ernesto Uchimura of Umami Burger fame. As my love of burgers, especially those of the umami variety, I jumped at the opportunity.

Although I arrived alone, I was not the only lone eater. Just next to where I was seated, I met e*star LA and we decided to share a meal called loneliness, because it’s better than eating alone. We made quick friends over our respective blogs and Midwestern roots, then got to work at dissecting the special menu, which Plan Check will be featuring for the next month if anything tickles your fancy.
