So sweet.

Chocolate is dumb. Flowers die. Jewelry is way too expensive. But bacon is forever. Or at least it’s a great way to show a lady you love her.

Smell that niacin.

On many occasions I have taken to this meat blog to spout out about the benefits of meat and sometimes specifically bacon. Yet, a study out of ETH Zurich has driven the point home.

Don’t talk back.

Ever wonder why the Nepalese are so healthy-looking? Sure, climbing Mt. Everest probably helps, but it might be more than that (or less if we’re going based on the size of the thing). Yes, I’m talking about yak.

Stop eating me!

It seems like so long ago that I reported on the remarkable ability of plants to communicate with one another. But lo and behold, none other than the New York Times is finally following suit with news from the world of plants.

Old man strength.

At the ripe age of 29, I can proudly say that meat has only positively affected my aging. And now there’s even a study supporting my mostly-biased claim. The study comes from Japan, and we all know to trust the people that brought us Nintendo.

A flood you say?

We can probably all agree that aside from silt, floods are pretty bad. But if there is one thing that can make a flood better, it’s meat. More specifically, moose meat.

I’ve created a monster!

In a world riddled with far too few edible creatures, sometimes we humans can’t wait around for evolution to produce the next level of meat and take the matter into our own hands. Enter: the Beefalo.

This hybrid bovine delight is a cross between cattle and American bison, and has been bred for meaty delights since way back in the 1800s. I could go on and on about the history of this breed, but that is what Wikipedia is for.

What really matters is that it is delicious. At least according to the American Royal Steak Competition in Kansas city. There, the beefalo steak from Merril Cattle Co./Beefalo Meats won the prize for the best steak in the grass-fed category, beating out purveyors of the obviously boring regular beef.

Now, more than ever, I realize I need to try some beefalo. Any insights on where I might find some? Have you tried it yourself? Let me know!

Eating Lion https://unvegan.com/rants-and-raves/eating-lion/ https://unvegan.com/rants-and-raves/eating-lion/#comments Mon, 13 May 2013 19:00:21 +0000 https://unvegan.com/?p=10603 No related posts. ]]> Eat me.
Eat me.

Usually the food we eat is relegated to the herbivore variety. There is simply something appetizing about eating animals that eat plants, as opposed to those that eat other animals. This probably came from the fact that herbivores were more plentiful and easier to catch, but a restaurant in Tampa, Florida has other ideas.

So this is all the excitement?

South Africa is a meaty place. So meaty, in fact, that when I departed for the place, I was told I had to get myself some biltong. Biltong (not to be confused with binturong, a mammal from Southeast Asia) is basically South African jerky.

More Meatless Mondays https://unvegan.com/rants-and-raves/more-meatless-mondays/ https://unvegan.com/rants-and-raves/more-meatless-mondays/#comments Wed, 14 Nov 2012 20:00:20 +0000 https://unvegan.com/?p=9874
Seriously, have a cow.

Awhile back, one Paul McCartney made his mark on the unvegan blogosphere for pushing Meat-Free Mondays. At the time, I thought it was just some kooky music fad like Kid Rock. But now that Los Angeles has endorsed Meatless Mondays, I realize this is not just some passing fad like sushi.

Granted, the thought behind the movement is all good – healthier people and a healthier planet – but it kind of misses the point. While it doesn’t try to ban meat altogether like the crazy vegans do, it does send a message that meat is bad for health and for the planet. Meat can absolutely be a healthy part of a diet and while I don’t eat it for every meal, it’s extremely rare that my meals don’t have any animal product in them at all. And I’m a pretty fit unvegan.

If you are trying to manage your weight or improve your overall nutritional balance, greens powders like the one from https://www.outlookindia.com/outlook-spotlight/athletic-greens-ag1-review-is-it-worth-the-hype-or-superfood-don-t-buy-until-you-read-this-news-301982/ can be a part of a well-rounded diet to support your goals.

As for the planet, there is no doubt that factory farms are terrible, but they shouldn’t give all meat a bad name. Livestock can definitely be farmed in a sustainable way that doesn’t harm the planet and Meatless Mondays just perpetuate the myth that meat is unnatural and wrong.

But it tastes so right.

So while I don’t endorse Meatless Mondays, I do want to endorse looking into where your meat comes from and staying healthy. How about Free Range and Grass-Fed Fridays? Weigh-In Wednesdays? Exercise Everydays? If we really want healthier people and a healthier planet, let’s concentrate on the real problem instead of just making Mondays worse than they already are!
