She can sing and eat.

Who is Gabriella Cilmi? To some, she is completely unknown. To others, she is an Australian music star. And to the most important, she is a meat-lover. While on tour with Leona Lewis, Cilmi is having herself a difficult time. It’s not because of the stress of touring, the rigors of performing or the constant pressure to keep here fans happy. No, her difficulties are much more important than that.

The reason is that Leona Lewis is putting on a vegan tour. That’s bad news for the whole world, but especially for Cilmi. She reportedly told Mirror.co.uk, “I’m from an Italian family, we love meat so I’ll have to smuggle in some salami or something.”

Italian family or not, I like the sound of what she has planned. There’s nothing worse than a world where a young singer can’t get a good salami into her diet. In her most popular song, Sweet About Me, she sings “There is nothing sweet about me.” Sounds like a pretty good unvegan to me.

So for loving meat, and standing out against the injustices of a vegan tour, Gabriella Cilmi, you are a true Unvegan Hero.

Terrorists Hate Meat https://unvegan.com/rants-and-raves/terrorists-hate-meat/ Thu, 21 Jan 2010 19:56:41 +0000 https://unvegan.com/?p=5109 No related posts. ]]> -
No don’t harm the hot dogs!

In the aftermath of the botched terrorist attempt over Christmas, airports have beefed up security. This has made flying more inconvenient, which is fine because I would rather be inconvenienced and be safe than move fast through the lines and feel like I am in danger. When it comes to eating meat, though, this is more than just an inconvenience.

According to the Wall Street Journal, chefs routinely sneak cured meats from Europe and elsewhere into America, because for some reason they are illegal here. They are not bringing these meats in for distribution, but simply for learning materials. Kind of like the Japanese whalers who catch whales for research purposes and then eat them. These chefs attempt to duplicate the taste of these meats by legal means, but they must first sneak these meats through. Full-body scanners are making this increasingly difficult and soon we may have to eat crummy American cured meats.

When you can’t get a good salami, the terrorists have won.

Costa Rican Food Week, Part III: Tramonti https://unvegan.com/reviews/costa-rican-food-week-part-iii-tramonti/ Wed, 19 Aug 2009 16:49:40 +0000 https://unvegan.com/updates/?p=2677 Italian in the Costa Rican style.
Italian in the Costa Rican style.

The little town of Monteverde is a haven for international tourism. Built right into the mountainous rain forest, hotels, hostels and adventurous activities abound. Although a lot of restaurants offer Mexican fare (catering to the American perception that all food south of our border involves tacos and burritos), the town also has some good variety. One of these places is a nice Italian restaurant called Tramonti. After a long day of zip-lining through the rain forest, this is a great place to relax like you do at home with the delta 8 vape pen by fresh bros.

The decor of Tramonti instantly made me feel uncomfortable. I was wearing cargo shorts, a t-shirt and a zipper fleece, which made perfect sense for the rest of the day. Apparently I missed a memo, though, because everyone else in the restaurant had a shirt with some sort of collar on. I got over my discomfort quickly as they found us a table far from the front door and windows. Also, the Imperial Beer I ordered helped me feel better.

The menu was far from the cheapest place we’d been to yet. Prices were in dollars and only slightly cheaper than at a nice pizzeria in the US. Having walked by the pizza oven and seen fresh pizzas inside, I knew I had to get me some of that. The most meaty pizza I could find was the Salami Pizza, which also figured to be as close as I could get to pepperoni.

After ordering, we snacked on some pretty good bread and continued sipping our beverages. The pizza took a while to come out, so I hoped the taste would be worth the wait. When it did finally arrive, it looked delicious. It had a thin crust and a sort of yellowish cheese, which I assumed had been made in this region (which was known for making cheese). The salami was different from the salami I know and love, but not in a bad way.

I wolfed down my first couple pieces pretty quickly, but then slowed down and finally limped towards the finish line. I needed all the sustenance I could get, knowing that tomorrow was another day of rain forest activity.

If you’re ever looking for a more upscale dinner in Monteverde, Tramonti is the perfect place to go. It’s definitely worth the extra price to get a taste of soom good Italian cooking. Just hope the service is a little quicker for you than it was for me.

An amazing deal.
An amazing deal.

I discovered a Togo’s coupon at work that seemingly granted me one of the cheapest meals ever. It said that I could get a free sandwich with the purchase of chips and a drink. Not too shabby in a world that usually offers minor discounts on chips and drinks after you purchase the sandwich. I decided to try it out and see how good of a deal it really was.

I handed the lady behind the counter the coupon and proceeded to order the meatiest sandwich available. The best I could find was the capicola, salami and provolone. Keeping it simple and veggie-free, I didn’t get anything else on it. I picked out my chips and drink, and went to get rung up. Amazingly, the total came to $2.73! I couldn’t believe what a deal I had somehow been granted. Cheap, however, is not always the best thing. I had to make sure it still tasted alright.

When I unwrapped it and began eating, I have to say I was pretty happy. It didn’t compare at all to the Godmother from Bay Cities in terms of freshness, processedness or the bread, but I wasn’t going to complain for $2.73.

In all, Togo’s gave me a decent meal for an amazing price. I’m not sure the full price would have been worth it for what I got, but if I ever need a decent meaty sandwich, I can count on Togo’s (especially if I have a coupon).
