Is this the future unvegan?

As if we don’t have enough to worry about with global warming. What with the crazy 110 degree weather I’m experiencing in the hellish valley or dwindling glaciers, now we have to worry about shrinkage. Now, not that kind of shrinkage. That kind comes with the cold. No, the shrinkage I write of affects all unvegans, whether man, woman or beast.

According to a new University of Florida study, global warming makes carnivores shrink. The study involved a “…hyena-like animal…[which] evolved from the size of a bear to the size of a coyote during a 200,000-year period when Earth’s average temperature increased about 15 degrees Fahrenheit.” Fortunately, I don’t have to worry about lasting that long, but it will be a sad future if my unvegan descendants evolve into pygmy unvegans. For that reason alone, it’s time to put a stop to global warming.

Baconize me

Just when you thought it was safe to be an unvegan in this world, the Harvard School of Public Health had to go and link processed meats to heart disease and diabetes. Never fear, though, because there’s a big kid on the block ready to defend meat to the death, the American Meat Institute.

The AMI jumped onto my radar a few weeks ago when I saw some of their mouth-watering videos of meatiness on the interwebs. And now they are on my radar even more. Before I get into berating the Harvard study, I want to first focus on the fact that they found no link between unprocessed meat and those nasty diseases. I’m not surprised, but for you skeptics out there, time to scarf down some good old fashioned meats.

Now in terms of processed meats, the AMI was quick to say that the study isn’t telling people to give up processed meats. Bacon, salami and other meats of that sort can be a very valuable part of a diet and it seems like the real issue here isn’t the meat itself, but the salt. So it doesn’t seem like a diet high in salty vegetables is any better. So thank you, AMI, for putting yourselves into the game, and to learn more about delicious meat, check out the video below.

A new study out of Japan brings good news to all those Baby Boomers hitting their middle-ages and wondering how to eat for the second half of their lives. According to the study, “eating meat at least every two days during middle age may help maintain independent daily activities when older.”

This is good news for anyone hoping to delay their entrance into nursing homes or for their children who would have to shoulder the responsibility of dependent parents if they didn’t go straight for the nursing home.

It’s bad news, though, if you are a vegan or vegetarian. The study also found that eating fish and eggs, as so many vegetarians do, had no positive effect on later independent functions.

The reasoning behind the results is most likely because of the increased muscle mass that only the protein in meat can provide.

If I can just delay going to the nursing home for one more day, I will eat as much meat as I can.

Here’s a study that’s sure to please those supposed vegetarians who eat fish. It seems that eating fish reduces the risk of getting dementia. This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, considering all the other great benefits that are associated with eating fish. Fish Oils and Omega 3 already help the heart and the brain, so it just follows suit that eating fish reduces the chances of getting dementia.

For unvegans, it’s just one more bit of good news to propel us into eating yummy animals. For vegans, though, this is some pretty bad news. The upside for the vegans is that at least once they get dementia, they probably won’t be able to remember how good meat tastes.

A recent joint Australian-Vietnamese study found that people who eat meat have stronger bones, and who are we to question the Australians and Vietnamese?

According to the study, “vegetarians had bones five percent less dense than meat-eaters.” It was even worse for vegans.

I don’t know about anyone else, but that five percent really comes in handy for me in my life. When I play sports I don’t have to vegetables making my bones more brittle and breakable. And also I don’t have to worry about osteoporosis so much and vegans do.

All this writing is making me hungry for some bone-strengthening meat.

The Meat Industry Supports America https://unvegan.com/rants-and-raves/the-meat-industry-supports-america/ Wed, 17 Jun 2009 18:27:16 +0000 https://unvegan.com/updates/?p=2161 No related posts. ]]> According to a recent study, the meat industry and all its components contribute more than $832 billion (5.8% of the GDP) to the US economy. That is no small figure. In these days of economic recession we hear giant numbers tossed around like they are pennies, but let’s consider what this particular huge number does, other than provide sustenance for unvegans all over the country.

This money goes towards employing more than 6 million people who will earn almost $200 billion because of the industry. But it is not simply about the individual people, but what the industry does for the country as a whole.  Direct taxes on the meat industry give our country more than $82 billion to spend on improving our infrastructure, protecting our borders and more. On top of that, sales taxes earn the states more than $2 billion to improve them.

In times like these, can we afford to be without an industry like meat? A lot of vegans would like the meat industry to go away. But could our great nation really survive without it?
