What happens when you put a Philly cheese steak joint in North Hollywood, north of Victory Boulevard? Apparently an amazing place to grab a torta. At least that’s what I was told when I set out for an adventure during lunch at work one day. I found myself at a tiny little standalone building with just a handful of tall tables and a great looking selection of sandwiches. It was called Philadelphia Steaks & Hoagies and I was pretty sure I was in for a treat.
By recommendation, I decided to get the Milanesa de Pollo Torta. This started out with a breaded chicken cutlet, then was loaded with mayo, onion, tomato, avocado and a chipotle chile sauce. I got mine with just the avocado and chipotle sauce, then added cheese and waited a solid fifteen minutes for my order.
When it was ready, it was certainly massive and prepared just the way I wanted it. The cheese was good old Mexican queso blanco and went perfect with the regular ingredients. They also didn’t hold back on ingredients and my torta was fully loaded with avocado and chicken. The bread itself was also outstanding. After eating way too much generic sandwich bread in my life, this was a great refresher. It was all at once heavy and fluffy, with just a very slight crisp to its crust.
So was this an amazing torta? Absolutely. It lived up to its billing and while I may not have the most experience with tortas, I know that any fan of sandwiches will appreciate what Philadelphia Steaks & Hoagies has to offer.
