I’ve created a monster!

In a world riddled with far too few edible creatures, sometimes we humans can’t wait around for evolution to produce the next level of meat and take the matter into our own hands. Enter: the Beefalo.

This hybrid bovine delight is a cross between cattle and American bison, and has been bred for meaty delights since way back in the 1800s. I could go on and on about the history of this breed, but that is what Wikipedia is for.

What really matters is that it is delicious. At least according to the American Royal Steak Competition in Kansas city. There, the beefalo steak from Merril Cattle Co./Beefalo Meats won the prize for the best steak in the grass-fed category, beating out purveyors of the obviously boring regular beef.

Now, more than ever, I realize I need to try some beefalo. Any insights on where I might find some? Have you tried it yourself? Let me know!

Drink up!

What’s that you say? You’re not getting enough beef in your diet? Join the club! But luckily, there is hope. We all know you can’t just go around eating steak all the time. Sure, it would taste delicious and you would live a long life, but it’s expensive at restaurants and tiresome to cook all the time. Fortunately, there are now beef straws!

Yes, these straws are little more than hollowed-out Slim Jims, but after Macho Man Randy Savage’s tragic death, someone had to revolutionize the cured beef industry. Enter Ben Hirko and Nathan Klostermann – two men who should surely be featured on Bud Light’s Real Men of Genius. The straw was developed mostly for use in Bloody Marys, but I don’t see why she should have all the fun. I wouldn’t exactly throw it in a Sprite, but perhaps milk or a Jack and Coke.

To get some for yourself, or to buy me some, head over to Benny’s Bloody Mary Beef Straw and get drinking.

The best part? When you finish your drink, you got yourself some beef to eat!

Bulgarians Love Meat https://unvegan.com/rants-and-raves/bulgarians-love-meat/ Wed, 11 Jan 2012 17:26:23 +0000 https://unvegan.com/?p=8755 -
More meat, Mr. Khan?

While some people still try to claim that meat is bad for you, I think just about everyone across the spectrum of vegetarianism can agree that meat is unquestionably healthier than cigarettes. So when I read an article entitled “Meat Displaces Cigarettes from Bulgarians’ Diet,” I was nearly as happy as Khan Krum must have been when his Bulgarians defeated the Byzantines at the Battle of Pliska.

The story goes on to describe other changes in the Bulgarian diet between 1999 and 2010, but the most important part to glean is that Bulgarians are now a healthier people, and it all comes down to meat. I don’t have any statistics to prove it, but I’ll bet the Bulgarians that avoid meat are still smoking down discountciggs nonstop. But let them smoke, we all know that the world will be rid of them soon enough. If the smoking doesn’t kill them, their diet certainly will.

Sitting on a pile of food.

What’s your favorite type of meat? Is it beef, chicken or pork? Or maybe it’s something cool and exotic like venison or rattlesnake? What about horse? Didn’t think about that one, did you? Not exactly exotic, but also not exactly meat to most Americans. Now, though, thanks to a little slip of legislation, the slaughter of horses for meat has been legalized in the USA.

Of course, just legalizing the process doesn’t mean people will start to eat horse meat. It’s still thought of as pretty taboo, but why? The French eat it, as do the Kazakh and other sweet Central Asian people. Let’s not forget how much the Japanese love their horse meat. Raw. Or even as ice cream! And if you want to get all high and mighty and say you’ve never eaten horse, I want you to prove to me that you never shoved a wad of dried up glue in your mouth as a kid and swallowed. Yeah, that was horse.

Aside from the rite of passage of eating glue, I’ve gotten pretty close to eating horse meat by chowing down on the other half of the mule: donkey. It was weird at first, but once I got down to eating, I found it to be an enjoyable experience. You can read more about my donkey-eating here.

Plus, are horses really good for anything other than racing and movies about horse racing? We have cars now. And our own feet if we want to go somewhere cars can’t. Or what about bikes? Maybe they can’t go everywhere horses can, but they also don’t take giant dumps and you can walk behind them without fear of getting the crap kicked out of you.

So, government, I must commend you for allowing the slaughter of horses. Bring on the meat!

Thank you meat for my brain.

We unvegans tend to think of vegans as less than human and although this typically stems from the fact that they don’t really eat human food, sometimes a study comes along and explains even more. According to a study of fossils in northern Kenya, the consumption of animals was a huge catalyst in changing us from silly primates to genius humans.

Between 1.9 and 2 million years ago, the brains of our ancestors grew. Studies like this in Kenya help shed a light on the answer. And that answer is meat. This site dates back to 1.95 million years ago and is littered with the remains dead animals used for eating. I wrote about a similar study here, but this new find makes it even harder for vegans to defend their eating practices.

Just imagine if humans had never discovered how tasty meat is? We’d probably still be swinging around in the trees and eating leaves. No art, no music, no writing. What a sad, sad world it would be. Thank you, meat, for making us what we are.

So realistic you can smell it.

Have you ever looked up at a food billboard for a place like McDonald’s or Outback and thought the thing looked so good you could taste it? Or at the very least, smell it? Well next time it might not just be in your head.

Bloom, a grocery store in North Carolina, has recently unveiled the world’s first scented billboard. And it’s not just any smell, it’s a smell any good unvegan would enjoy…meat!

The secret is a fan at the bottom that blows the smell of steak onto the road. The idea is that although the steak on the billboard looks beautiful, people will be more enticed to pick up a steak based on the smell. Although I am always enticed to buy steak, I would definitely be more tempted if I smelled it on my drive home from work.

Unfortunately, this billboard only runs through today, but since this is a guaranteed success, I would be surprised if we didn’t find scented billboards popping up all over. And if we’re lucky, they will all smell of a sweet meaty aroma.

To meat and beyond.

What have vegetables done for you lately? Sure, if you’re not an unvegan perhaps they have given you a malnourishing meal or two, but beyond that have they done much more than kill your environment? Probably not. Meanwhile, meat has been progressing steadily towards the future of transportation.

Yes, that’s right, meat has become an important part of transportation, and it couldn’t have come at a better time (see: oil spill). Amtrak, the inefficient and disorganized train company that bungles its way across our country, has finally gotten something right. Their train running from Fort Worth to Oklahoma City now runs on 20% cow fat. The other 80% is still old-fashioned diesel, but this is a huge step in the right direction and a huge slap in the face to vegans who pretend their food makes a better environment.

According to Fast Company, “…[this] fuel reduces hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions by 10%, cuts down on particulates by 15%, and reduces sulfates by 20% compared to standard diesel.” Plus, there’s an even bigger benefit that you don’t get from oil…the dead cow that gets converted to beef in my kitchen. Looks like a win-win situation to me and I can’t wait to see what other great things come from meat in the future.

Yummy myth.

We live in a world full of myth. Some of these myths are awesome, like Greek myths. But some myths just plain suck. Like myths about meat. They are rampant and they turn know-nothing vegans into high and mighty zealots. Well, it’s time to kiss those myths goodbye, because I have uncovered a handy little article that should quiet them down.

It’s called Myths of Vegetarianism and it is fantastic. The writer, Dr. Stephen Byrnes goes through the myths one by one. In doing so, he debunks the myth that somehow vegans are able to get vitamin B12 without getting some animal in them. Unfortunately, B12 doesn’t exist in plants. He then goes on to disprove more harmful myths like the one where people think that meats cause disease. Once again, the myth is proven as just a myth. I could go on and on, but luckily Dr. Byrnes has taken care of that for me in his article. Using fact rather than myth, this nifty little article of his is well worth a read. And it might just make you a better person.

I’ll take two.

Today, KFC has changed the face of food as we know it. For too long, the sandwich has been dominated by some sort of grain, but no longer are sandwiches to be oppressed by two slices of bread. On this fine day of April 12th, 2010, the sandwich has been liberated and that liberator is KFC’s Double Down.

The Double Down is an ingenious creation consisting of bacon and cheese with a piece of fried chicken on each side. Best of all, they aren’t even trying to throw lettuce or tomatoes or any of those other vegetable sandwich killers in it. So has anyone had it? If you have, let me know, because I am certainly looking forward to the next time I drive by a KFC.

Bacon Beats Sex https://unvegan.com/rants-and-raves/bacon-beats-sex/ Mon, 08 Mar 2010 22:40:34 +0000 https://unvegan.com/?p=5410 -
Baconfact!

While on the subject of Canada, it seems that a new report from the Great White North has some interesting insight into the power of delicious meats. According to the study, 43% of Canadians prefer bacon to sex. Is Canadian sex that bad or is bacon that good? I like to think that bacon is just that good.

There are many reasons to explain why bacon is good, and while the report really dives into the science of the thing, I have my own reasons. First off, you can have bacon in public. Second, bacon smells good. The same can’t usually be said for that uhhh other thing. I could go on, but it might get gross and offensive. The point is that while True Pheromones and sex is good, bacon is apparently better…at least in Canada. But then again, they would probably choose an ice cold Molson, hockey and curling over sex as well.

Now bacon and sex combined…that’s a million dollar idea.
