As everyone knows, almost two weeks ago, Haiti was hit with a devastating earthquake. Other than donating by text message or contributing in other small ways, a bunch of the food trucks of LA banded together for a huge fundraiser at T-Lofts in West LA. In the tradition of other great ks before it, the unveiling took place at The Brig on Abbot Kinney. I arrived 15 minutes before the scheduled 8:00 start time and was shocked to find the parking lot at The Brig empty except for the shiny orange truck. Apparently, I was to be the first in line! International Respect For Chickens Day
May 4th, 2009I have just learned (albeit a bit late) that today is International Respect for Chickens Day (IRCD). My sixth sense must have told me, though, as I chose to write about Zankou Chicken today.
I wanted to write about this topic specifically because I fully support respecting chickens.
The best way I can think of to respect them is by eating them. I’m not sure if that’s what the United Poultry Concerns had in mind when they thought up this crazy day, but it’s sure how I feel. Just the thought of chickens makes me hungry. It’s something like eating the heart of a warrior that you have bested in the battlefield. We respect the chickens because we absorb their strength.

Beer Me Some Breckenridge Agave Wheat
Colorado is definitely a beer state, and not just because Coors comes from the Rocky Mountain State. No, it is also home to New Belgium (of Fat Tire fame) and seemingly countless other micro and craft breweries. While in Breckenridge for a ski weekend, I decided I had to at least try one of these, and because it turned out to be the only one available at dinner, my choice happened to come from the creatively named Breckenridge Brewery. The brewery, by the way, is actually no longer in Breckenridge, having expanded and moved to Denver in 1992.
