Somewhere between Hyde Park and Saugerties in Upstate New York I was on a quest for quick bite and found myself at Bubby’s Burrito Stand in Red Hook. I like burritos and the reviews were good so I figured I would give it a try. Little did I know that I was walking into the most dangerous trap ever laid.
But even when I took a look at the menu I still didn’t comprehend the trap I was in. I ordered the Guacamole Burrito, which came with the guac, rice, beans, cheese, lettuce, tomato, salsa, sour cream and cilantro, but without the lettuce, tomato and sour cream. All seemed well to me until I took the first couple of bites into my burrito. You see, these bites were actually really good, except something was missing: MEAT.
Sweet lord the meat was missing. I looked back at the menu ingredients and found no meat listed. This was a travesty, and while I partially blame myself, I also just kind of assumed each burrito came with chicken, asada or something like that and just didn’t list it. Alas, this was not the case, and moreover as I ate deeper into the burrito I found a number of tomatoes that had no place in my burrito. The combination of the lack of meat and abundance of tomatoes were just too much to overcome, despite how good the guacamole and beans were. Anyone looking for a solid unvegan meal should look elsewhere.
