Battle of the Sauces: Black Swan vs. Buffalo Wild Wings

Enemies!
Fight!

If history winds up the way I fully expect it to, the city of Buffalo, New York will only be remembered for one thing: Buffalo Wings. This isn’t exactly a bad thing for a city which would love to forget about the four consecutive Super Bowl losses, the freezing winters and the fact that they aren’t quite at Niagara Falls. And since, Buffalo Wings are one of the greatest culinary creations in history, it’s not exactly a bad thing to be remembered by.

In honor of Buffalo Wings, the Black Swan sauce company sent me out a free jar of their Wing Commander sauce to test out on some wings. Just as in any good experiment, I wanted to have a “control,” so I chose my all-time favorite buffalo sauce, Wild, from Buffalo Wild Wings.

Frysmith Rolling Out Today

Try them out tonight!

The newest food truck to roll out onto the streets of Los Angeles will be Frysmith and their official launch is none other than tonight at 6:30 at the Brig was November 20th. I haven’t had a chance to test out their offerings yet, but what I’ve seen on their website looks pretty impressive. I did catch up with owners Erik and Brook to get a few questions in.

Check out the interview below.

Free Meat Alert: Dinah’s Fried Chicken

Dinah’s Fried Chicken in Glendale is offering some free chicken that is sure to please. According to LAist, “Customers have their choice of a leg and thigh or breast and wing plus one side dish absolutely free.” I guess they were just waiting for the Grilled Chicken War between KFC and El Pollo Loco to cool off. Fortunately, this offer isn’t about supposedly “healthy” grilled chicken.

The deal runs through the end of August and the only catch is that you can only go once, as they will be checking IDs and putting your name on a list (more incentive to finally get that fake ID?).

Korean BBQ Festival and Cook-Off

The lines were long, but not endless.
The lines were long, but not endless.

On Saturday, my friends and I headed down to Koreatown for the Korean BBQ Festival and Cook-Off. Korean BBQ is known to be heavy in meat, so I felt this would be a great opportunity to tackle my daily meat intake.

The festival ran from 12:00-5:00 and although we arrived around 1:00, the lines were already getting pretty long. I wasn’t too surprised by the long lines since the event was free, plus $10 per plate.

Assuming the longest lines had the best food, I jumped into one of the lines without

even knowing what it was.

Celebrate National Hot Dog Day!

hot-dogIt seems as though our great nation cannot agree upon a date to celebrate National Hot Dog Day. I’ve seen websites claiming it falls on any day between 19th and 23rd of July, but there is certainly one thing we can agree on: July is truly the month for hot dogs. It starts with Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest on July 4th, and continues throughout the month with strings of backyard barbecues, baseball games and the sheer enjoyment of that magical tube meat. So before the month ends, be sure to get your share of hot dogs, you’ll be happy you did.

Free Food Alert: Chick-fil-A Cow Appreciation Day

July 10th, Chick-fil-A will be having a Cow Appreciation Day to try to get people to eat more chicken. Honestly, I couldn’t think of a better way to appreciate a cow than by eating it, kind of like how in the movies some Native Americans would eat the heart of a warrior they just killed to show their appreciation. But I digress. In Chick-fil-A’s case, all you have to do for Cow Appreciation Day is show up to one of their restaurants dressed up as a cow. If you do, they’ll give you a free meal of chicken, which I hear can be quite tasty.

Free Meat Alert: White Castle

I don't know if it's a real slider, but it's free.
I don't know if it's a real slider, but it's free.

Click on that picture to the left to get a free Pulled Pork Slider coupon from White Castle. The coupon is good through June 30th and looks pretty damn good.

I have a hard time believing you can make a real slider out of pulled pork, but since White Castle burgers are true sliders, maybe they are on to something…

*Update: It looks like they are also offering free regular sliders through July 12th. Check out the coupon here. Thanks to AHT for the info.
