One Badass Sandwich at Roma Market

THE SANDWICH
THE SANDWICH

Not too long ago I decided to make Roma Market in Pasadena the center of my 7 Year Blogiversary. Yet, what it is really known for is something simply called “The Sandwich.” It doesn’t go by any other name because it doesn’t need to — after all, its maker (Rosario Mazzeo) has been dishing the thing out by the hundreds since perhaps the beginning of time. It was only a matter of time before I would make it mine.

Rocking Brisket at Rocklands Barbeque

Plate of joy.
Plate of joy.

While essentially a part of The South, Washington, DC has always seemed much more like a northern city to me. Nonetheless, its southern roots can sometimes be found in a number of places. Rocklands Barbeque in Glover Park is one of those places, because obviously The South is chock-full of great BBQ.

Double Hash at Steak ‘n Egg

Time for brekkie.
Time for brekkie.

There are places in this world that can be relied upon to provide food at any time of day. Such places are perfect for people looking for a late-night snack or an early bite (or both depending on the night and time), but I went to Steak ‘n Egg in Washington, DC for the latter. It was a beautiful Fall day, so we sat outside and got ourselves ready for some delicious diner food.

Bizarre Burgers at B Grill

Cheaply cheddar.
Cheaply cheddar.

LAX has been doing its best to step up its food game, offering restaurants that are pretty popular around the city in its terminals instead…well…McDonald’s. I mean yeah McDonald’s is still there, but so is B Grill, a place from the people that brought you BOA Steakhouse (apparently a pretty good place to eat steak). B Grill’s menu is definitely more for the airport-goer crowd than the upscale, but they do have a couple of steaks on there accompanying the burgers and other peasant foods.

Mysteriously Delicious at Nessy Burgers

Found you!
Found you!

A long, long time ago a coworker of mine told me Nessy Burgers had the best burgers in the world. Now, I consider myself an aficionado of burgers so this obviously had a lasting impact on me, especially considering that Nessy Burgers is essentially in the middle of nowhere. When we arrived to the hidden trailer in Fallbrook (just outside of Temecula), my wife remarked that it might be called “Nessy” because it was hard to find, like its namesake Loch Ness Monster.Read more about the dietary benefits that

A Juicy Breakfast at Eggslut

Slutty diners.
Slutty diners.

I have always been a fan of downtown LA’s Grand Central Market. And while the place is flush with old school spots that I have reviewed in the past, there are now new school spots intermingling with the old in perfect harmony. One of these goes by the name of Eggslut. How it got this name may forever be a mystery (well, at least the “slut” part), but it is undoubtedly a hit that draws crazy lines on the weekends at prime brunch hours.

Culver-Style BBQ at Chop Daddy’s (CLOSED)

It's smiling.
It’s smiling.

BBQ is a wonderful thing. And while most great BBQ is nowhere near LA, there are certainly great spots to be found. A newcomer on the scene just recently popped up in Culver City (in a corner where restaurant seem to die), calling itself Chop Daddy’s. The place has all the makings of trying to become a chain, which isn’t always the best when you’re looking for authenticity, but all I cared about was getting some good ‘cue.

7 Years of Unvegan!

This x 7.
This x 7.

A lot can happen in 7 years. You could meet a woman, call her your girlfriend for a while, then fiancee, then wife and then mother of your child. You could move from LA to Pittsburgh to and then to Pasadena, with a brief sojourn into Buffalo. Or you could, you know, start a meat-centric food blog and keep it going for as long as Brad Pitt spent in Tibet.
