Michael Pollan: Unvegan Villain

I’m not really sure who Michael Pollan is or why he is famous. These matters are inconsequential to me. What does matter to me is that the man has somehow become famous enough to spout off nonsense about meat-eaters. We unvegans are a strong, proud bunch and we are not to be taken lightly. So when a guy like Pollan starts spilling untruths, we recognize that he must be stopped. Pollan recently said, “A vegan in a Hummer has a lighter carbon footprint than beef-eater in a Prius.” He couldn’t have been more wrong.

Getting Hot-N-Ready at Little Caesars

And look how efficient it is.
And look how efficient it is.

Once Little Caesars abandoned their “Pizza Pizza” slogan, they seemed to fall off the face of the earth. A few years later, though, they were reborn with the $5 Hot-N-Ready large pizza. The idea behind this is that pizza has become too complicated. Choosing a topping can be a pain in the ass, then finding the right coupon to go along with your purchase can be even more difficult. With the Hot-N-Ready pizza, you can walk right into as Little Caesars at any time, throw down five bucks and walk out with either a large cheese or large pepperoni. It’s a genius idea, because who really wants a different topping on their pizza? But it only works if the product still tastes good. I recently paid a visit back to Little Caesars to see if their Hot-N-Ready was just like I remembered.

Guiding Myself Towards Better Bacon

Well this is just perfect.
Well this is just perfect.

A few weeks ago, I ordered the Guide to Better Bacon from the Zingerman’s food empire as a gift for one of my friends. A real friend forces you to eat tons of bacon! Anyway, the book never showed, so I called up Zingerman’s and they were kind enough to ship me another book expressly. The new book arrived two days later and soon after made its way to my buddy.

A few days passed and I forgot about the book, but when I got my mail this morning, I was greeted by a most pleasant surprise.

More Food Trucking with Don Chow Tacos (CLOSED)

Not quite as shiny as the other trucks...
Not quite as shiny as the other trucks…

Although the Grilled Cheese Truck is the newest member of LA’s fleet of food trucks, Don Chow has already been roaming the streets in search of hungry night life for months.

The truck isn’t nearly as shiny as Kogi or Nom Nom, but I’ve never felt the need to be served from a shiny establishment. In fact, when I did catch up with the Don Chow truck in Venice, the cheap sign had fallen off and it looked like any other generic taco truck. Good thing my girlfriend noticed a small sign on the front of the truck ensuring us it was Don Chow.

Jonathan Safran Foer vs. Lierre Keith

Do NOT buy this book.
Do NOT buy this book.

Recently, I’ve been reading more and more news articles about a book called Eating Animals. At first, I thought this was going to be some sort of awesome cookbook or essays about eating some pretty tasty animals. Instead, I found a book that goes against the things that every unvegan stands for. I haven’t read the book, because I don’t think the author or publisher deserves any of my money, but I know enough to place an unvegan ban on the vegan propaganda.

The book is so insidious that it has turned the adorable Natalie Portman into a sudden vegan who compares eating meat with rape. This cannot stand!

Buffalo Wild Wings Reaches LA

Apparently Burbank is worth a visit.
Apparently Burbank is worth a visit.

Well, sort of. It’s in Burbank, which sure as hell beats the next closest one in Chino Hills  Either way, it’s good to know that it’s now easier to drive to Buffalo Wild Wings than to fly back home to Detroit for my Bdubs.

I wasn’t able to make it to the grand opening, where the first 100 people in line got free wings for a year. That would have been nice, but I also have a job I had to be at on that Monday morning. Instead, I settled for a visit the next week. This Buffalo Wild Wings is part of a sort of outdoor mall/downtown area in Burbank, with tons of people walking around and tons of shops for them to spend their hard-earned money. The money I had would be going for some wings. And beer.

The First Melt at the Grilled Cheese Truck

So shiny and like-new
So shiny and like-new

The highly anticipated Grilled Cheese Truck finally rolled into town tonight and due to my frightening obsession with cheese, I made sure to greet the truck. In the tradition of other great ks before it, the unveiling took place at The Brig on Abbot Kinney. I arrived 15 minutes before the scheduled 8:00 start time and was shocked to find the parking lot at The Brig empty except for the shiny orange truck. Apparently, I was to be the first in line!

Free T-Shirt Caption Contest!

Meals on wheels?
Meals on wheels?

***Congrats to And/Or, the winner of the free T-Shirt, look out for it.***

There are a lot of t-shirt companies out in the world that try to create funny and ironic shirts. Not nearly enough of them make shirts that so hilariously depict the plight of unvegans. The crew at Snorgtees.com has some great unvegan shirts, though, and they were nice enough to send me a couple for myself. In the spirit of community, and as a way to reward my loyal readers, I thought I would throw a bit of contest to win one of the shirts.

Promoting Mispronunciation at Pho Show

Wings are a good place to start.
Wings are a good place to start.

Having been to Vietnam, I found it very strange that when I moved to LA, everyone considered pho THE Vietnamese food. I hadn’t even heard of pho before and certainly don’t remember encountering it anywhere in Vietnam. Nonetheless, I decided it was about time I found myself some pho. Just my luck, a new place had recently opened in my neighborhood, called Pho Show. I found it strange that anyone would choose to name their pho shop this way, as all pho connoisseurs know that the word is pronounced “fuh” rather than “foe.” Nonetheless, I went to Pho Show to see what it was all about.

Some Much-Needed Mexican at El Torito

There be onions hidden in there.
There be onions hidden in there.

After a long drive back from Phoenix, I was willing to eat about anything. Luckily in Ontario, we came across El Torito, a Mexican sit-down restaurant that is all over California. I actually saw El Torito in Istanbul, which has kept me from going for a long time because I question their authenticity. Nonetheless, I had put off El Torito for long enough and I was so damn hungry.
